By the way, I think Washington & Lee should officially change its name to Windfall Hill. This moniker is especially appropriate given that W&L is comprised almost exclusively of rich, spoiled Southern brats who will have handed to them upon graduation: a high-earning job, a beautiful life, and likely a powerful voice in the nation's business affairs. Hence, a windfall.
My proposal would be the 5th name for what is now Washington & Lee University. It began its existence as Augusta Academy in 1749. It became Liberty Hall in 1776 in honor of the Revolution. In 1796, it became Washington Academy when Gen. George Washington gave the school its first major endowment. In 1870, the name changed to Washington & Lee University to honor Robert E. Lee who served as the university's president after the Civil War.
God willing, in 2006 it will become the Windfall Hill, Home for the Exceptionally Privileged and Incredibly Unappreciative.
