Heavy Metal Album Cover, or State Flag?

A female warrior stands atop a vanquished king. The king holds a scourge and chain in his lifeless hands, his crown lies on the ground. The Valkyrie stands proud and firm, clutching her spear and broadsword. Her tunic hangs low, exposing her left breast. The warrior's name is Virtue.

Underneath: Thus Always to Tyrants.

F-ing A, man.

Great quote/WTF

“These birds never saw buildings like that before. They’re not from here. They’re not pigeons. They come here for a better life, and they died. But now that they changed the windows, everything is O.K.” (NYT.)

That about sums everything up.

New York, development, affordable housing, disconnect

Compare (blue building--luxury--on the Lower East Side is celebrated for its embrace of the off-beat--what New York City welcomes/d--and, somewhat in passing, criticized for being out of the price range of most people, including the people who used to live in the area) and contrast (there's still affordable housing in, say, Queens, but prices are rising). Of course, however, the Manhattan luxury condos get the publicity, and there isn't too much attention paid to the middle class or rising middle class that lives in Queens, deep Brooklyn, and I don't know where. I just hope that the city government is paying attention.
