New York, development, affordable housing, disconnect

Compare (blue building--luxury--on the Lower East Side is celebrated for its embrace of the off-beat--what New York City welcomes/d--and, somewhat in passing, criticized for being out of the price range of most people, including the people who used to live in the area) and contrast (there's still affordable housing in, say, Queens, but prices are rising). Of course, however, the Manhattan luxury condos get the publicity, and there isn't too much attention paid to the middle class or rising middle class that lives in Queens, deep Brooklyn, and I don't know where. I just hope that the city government is paying attention.
