The Party of Ideas

So Walter Kronkite suggested in an NY Times letter to the editor that Democrats should hold a mid-term convention to pimp their platform. I think this is a bold idea and exactly what Dems need to emerge as the majority next year.

With Tom Delay indicted, Bill Frist under SEC investigation, Karl Rove and Scooter Libby looking down the barrel of a grand jury (with rumors of Cheney facing the firing squad too) and Republican poll numbers in the toilet across the country, Democrats have a rare opportunity. Americans actually want to listen to what they have to say.

People fed up with five years of an America no one recognizes. But Dems need to emerge as the party with good ideas. Straddling the fence trying not to piss anyone off has gotten us nowhere. We need to be creative and make the middle class realize that we understand gas prices are killing them, war is killing their children, and there wages have gone nowhere while inflation skyrockets. A platform convention with even just a little prime time publicity will work wonders.

By the way, in case you're wondering, I did just get an erection when I listed the names of all those Neo-Con bastards facing jail time.
