Making It Up As They Go Along

Props to Think Progress:

When asked Friday about his authorization of illegal, warrantless wiretaps on American citizens, George Bush replied: "I know that people are anxious to know the details of the operation, they -- people want me to comment about the veracity of the story. It's the policy of this government, just not going do it [sic], and the reason why is that because [sic] it would compromise our ability to protect the people."

In his radio address this morning, he not only confirmed that the wiretaps took place, but that he authorized them, and he provided signifcant details.

What happened? Are we safe now? Of course not, the White House needed a little time to organize a P.R. strategy since their hand was forced by a leak. If you ever need to analyze the actions of the Bush administration to determine why they're doing what they're doing, here's a helpful maxim:

"They care more about looking good than doing good."

Remember that and everything else falls into place (i.e., "Mission Accomplished", Tax Cuts, $15 billion for AIDS in Africa (approximately $50 million of which has been delivered), and, of course, MARS, BITCHES!!)

The maxim holds. And here's some more proposed meaningless expediency.
