The UAE Port Deal

Along the lines of my earlier post, I'm simply bumfuzzled by the President's stubborn insistence about letting this port deal to go through. A 45 day delay has been instituted, but that will only make things worse for the President.

A Rasmussen poll issued today shows that only 17% people believe the sale should take place. A whopping 64% of people disagree. There is simply no political cover for Republicans on this. It's an election year and they need to look strong on security (actually being strong on security is someone else's problem). And people are watching them on this because 72% of people say they have been following the story somewhat or very closely.

If Bush doesn't drop this right now, he's going to be faced with hundreds of Republicans who have to get reelected saying mean and nasty things about him and even that will still just hurt Republicans. All that and no political upside. It's almost enough to make somebody think that Bush's crack political team really doesn't have a fucking clue what they're doing.

By the by, the same poll showed that the people trust Congressional Democrats more than President Bush when it comes to national security (43% - 41%). It truly is Morning in America. I can tell because everybody's waking up.
