Odd Year Election

Don't forget, Tuesday is election day and there are some important races going on across the country. Favorable results for Democrats could be a strong signal for next year's congressional races.

Here are the races to watch:

• New Jersey Governor: Sen. Corzine (D) has generally been leading Doug Forrester (R) in the polls, but Forrester has been pulling a last minute negative ad blitz (can second-string Republicans win a race fair and square?). Despite this, latest polls have Corzine with a strong lead - 9% in one and 12% in another. My money's on Corzine.
• Virginia Governor: This race has been a dead heat for months with each side occasionally pulling a small margin. I think this race is the most important in terms of Democrats chances next year. Since Warner is term-limited, a Democratic victory here without the benefits of incumbency is a statement.
• California Special Election: The Governator has basically staked his office on this election regarding some constitutional amendments. Since he's one of the least popular governors in the country, I think Arnie's going to take a big hit from this and the effects will cost him reelection. Everything he's touched since taking office has turned to shit and Californians really don't like him.
• New York Mayor: Turn-coat Bloomberg (R) by a landslide.
• Ohio Redistricting: Democrats have been pushing ballot initiatives for a while. This includes non-partisan redistricting and some election administration changes. This race is also a big bellwether for 2006 and 2008 in the important swing state.
