Two things: I wonder how permanent some of this'll be (for people, like us, outside the New Orleans region). It's been a hell of a week, but just a week. Gas prices'll stabilize. Even the sheer chaos in the South'll die down, and soon, I'd bet. (Things that won't change nearly as quickly, if at all, ranked in order of increasing permanence: Wind and water damage, damaged oil rigs, pollution and contamination, rise and fall of land, bitterness and anger, death.)
Second, aren't gas prices now comparable to Europe? I guess we'll get used to that. I'm looking forward to the Smart Car's catching on!
