Bad news, bad news

Snarky counterinsurgency blog Abu Muqawama has quickly shot to the top of my favorite internet reading. It's sort of like Wonkette, if Wonkette also delivered insightful political analysis and was read and commented upon by the political equivalents of such counterinsurgency luminaries as David Kilcullen and Gian Gentile. Although the blog's continuing, sadly one of its lead contributors is leaving to focus on his academic research. Since the blog was run under pseudonyms, it's interesting to find out that Abu Muqawama himself turns out to be none other than Andrew Exum. I read Andrew Exum's book when it was published several years ago--it was one of the first first-person soldier narratives to come out of the GWOT. Good luck to him in his future endeavors.

In other news, Michael Scheuer is skeptical that Al Qaeda's supposed intellectual breakup is all that it's cracked up to be.
