Good news!
Bad news.
How to make sense of it?

To meddle in the government of society and to speak about it is the greatest business and, so to speak, the only pleasure that an American knows.... An American does not know how to converse, but he discusses; he does not discourse, but he holds forth. -ADT

Hard to say. I actually read the NYT article this morning before reading the blog post: I found this quote from Dr. Fadl interesting:
"“Oh, you young people, do not be deceived by the heroes of the Internet, the leaders of the microphones, who are launching statements inciting the youth while living under the protection of intelligence services, or of a tribe, or in a distant cave or under political asylum in an infidel country,” Fadl warns. “They have thrown many others before you into the infernos, graves, and prisons.”"
But more than that, unless political and social conditions in these areas improve, it's hard to see how the flow of disenfranchised, impoverished youth into the networks of guerrilla fighters will be stemmed.
