I... really? Really?

As a preface, let me just state that I badly wanted this not to be true.

You may have noticed, in Hillary Clinton's defiant post-primary speech last night, that she mentioned that comments on her website would be welcome as a means of determining the next steps her campaign might take. From the Washington Post:

Ever the good pupil, Clinton mentioned her Web site the way advisers spent months begging her to do. "This has always been your campaign, so to the 18 million people who voted for me and to our many other supporters out there of all ages, I hope you will go to my Web site, at HillaryClinton.com," she said, soliciting suggestions for her next move. (emphasis supplied)

Vice Wonkette, however, if you go to HillaryClinton.com, you find the following message:

So I guess the "suggestion" we're meant to send is pretty clear. How ludicrous is this? "Message(optional)"? Really? A pathetic demand for pro forma support, disguised as a request for an honest airing of views? This is why I support Barack Obama. He's the only candidate with acceptable policy views in the race thus far who has not repeatedly insulted my intelligence. My primary concern is no longer if he's the candidate most likely to win in November anymore. He, or someone very much like him, will be president one day. It is inevitable. As this country moves towards increasing racial diversity, as this country continues to base its future on innovation and a creed, however besmirched, of individual rights and liberties, it is inevitable. History is on Barack Obama's side, however this election turns out. We deserve a president who will speak to us like intelligent human beings, who will leave behind the hateful racists and xenophobes who have come out of the woodwork to vote against Barack Obama in defiance of their own economic self-interest. If victory in November comes at the price of getting in bed with the West Virginians who won't vote for a black man, or "have had enough of HOO-SEIN", in my opinion it comes at too high a price. Let President McCain appoint his judges to the Supreme Court. Let those judges stand in the way of the next Barack Obama, or the next, or the next. Let us remember FDR and the New Deal Supreme Court. Let the dross be burned away by this crucible, and let us emerge like steel from the fire.
