Mission Accomplished (An Elseworld Tale)

Three years ago today, President George W. Bush stood on an aircraft carrier (after piloting a Hornet on to its landing strip) and announced that the War in Iraq was over. In one of the shortest, most inexpensive, and least bloody conflicts in American history, only 139 American soldiers were killed. While any loss of life is of course tragic, in retrospect this was a small price to pay to unify an entire region and end the instability of the Arab World.

Three years later, the World is reaping the benefits of the President's prescient wisdom. Gas prices are at an all time low because of the widespread availability and increased production of Iraqi oil. All but a handful of American troops have been brought home (which led to the National Guard being better able to protect New Orleans and the South from Hurricane Katrina).

Perhaps more importantly, the Arab world is now free. The domino effect of the removal of that evil dictator, Saddam Hussein, has led to a popular, moderate uprising in the most oppressed Arab countries. From Saudi Arabia to Iran, calm, moderate, and not at all fanatical Muslims have called for more freedom from their governments. American companies and its citizens are reaping the benefits of a hugely increased market for Coca-Cola, Victoria's Secret lingerie, Apple iPods, and American films featuring blond, bare breasted women and men who shout vulgarities at the drop of a hat.

Breaking news.....North Korea has been intimidated by the President's bold initiatives and has willingly surrendered its nuclear-production capabilities as well as all of its existing nuclear arms. Kim Jong Il has stepped down as President of the People's Republic and North Korea's first popular election is scheduled for next month.

This is truly a better world we live in thanks to President George W. Bush's bold insight. His ability to solve problems, ignoring all potential political ramifications to himself, has delivered on his promise to truly be a "Uniter, Not a Divider." He has united the entire world around his torch of freedom and his legacy will be one of greatness.

So we say to you sir, Mission Accomplished.
