Honest Leadership

This is what I'm talking about. Democrats can't expect to make gains simply by saying, "Those guys are corrupt, vote for me" and then doing nothing about corruption. On January 18, Democratic House and Senate leaders will unveil the Honest Leadership Act which aims to clean up government and put a stop to influence peddling. We'll discuss details as they become available.

Every single Democrat needs to get behind this Act. This is how you organize a national mid-term election and get voters to vote for a party, not just a candidate.

(As a side note, the title "Honest Leadership Act" takes a play from the Bush playbook, using a catchy title that sticks in the minds of voters. However, unlike Bush's "Clean Skies" or "Healthy Forests" bills, hopefully this one won't just be bullshit.)

Let's not forget the federal Paperwork Reduction Act, which as far as I can tell does no such thing.

I think they need to do more than just promise not to be corrupt--again with the reactive program--but it's a good start. I'd go with this: Equality of opportunity with a minimal standard of living below which no American should fall. You know, a place to live, food to eat, and the opportunity for your children to do better than you.

Don't get me wrong, simply promising not to be corrupt is not sufficient reason to be elected to office, nor should it be. But you can tie your position to this legislation very easily. For instance, by saying, "Republican fat cats have been travelling to foreign countries and eating at the finest restaurants all paid for by lobbyists. This is shameful when the low wage of most Americans means they can't afford basic needs like healthcare. Elect me and I'll do such and such about it."

Tie all this together and you have yourself a national platform big enough for every Democratic candidate to stand on.

Agreed. It's still that "such and such" that's missing, though.
