It's... full of stars!

So let me get this straight--we invade and destroy a Persian Gulf state, turning it from a brutal, but stable, dictatorship into a nominally democratic hornet's nest of chaos and random violence, then pull out, forcing Saudi Arabia, promoter of fundamentalist Islam extraordinare, to fill the void and fight a proxy war against Iran, while remaining, ostensibly, good friends with the Saudis? Who could propose, much less implement, such a crazy Machiavellian scheme!

I haf no idea to what you refer.

If only it had worked out that way.

Ha!

Another side would be, the last time we let the Saudis help fund and fight a proxy war for us, it helped get us where we are today.

Good point--but aren't we up to our eyeballs in failed states and Great Satan sentiment anyway? At least it's a nice fig leaf for an American withdrawal.

A while back, we thought about having the US or New York City become a rogue state. Still tempting.
