The demonstrators were on their own until a lone woman, Jennifer Roesch, started shouting from across the street, "Immigrants are welcome here!" The demonstrators shouted back, with one shouting "Communist!"
As it turns out, Ms. Roesch, 34, said she was a member of the International Socialist Organization, a Trotskyite group. She helped gather about a dozen counterdemonstrators.
Of course, this only'll feed the nutso rightwing's supposition that everyone who disagrees with it is a communist.

She admitted to being a part of a socialist group, so the "communist" description was accurate.
Accurate, indeed, but even the worst marksman'll hit a bullseye once in a while, just by sheer luck. My reading of the article made it seem like this was one of those times.
I had two points with the post, both of which relied on that fact. First, it was funny (because it was unlikely, in my opinion). Second, "communist" and "socialist" remain common epithets used indiscriminately and wrongly to attack Democrats (see Old Holding Forth) and others who oppose the Right. I regretted that this incident might support anyone who agreed wtih that position.
The accuracy of the comment was necessary to make those points, but the vital fact was the unexpectedness of the accuracy.
